LBJ's Legendary Point-Scoring Streak Comes to a Close, But Lakers Secure Victory Against Raptors.

James understood his historic streak of putting up 10+ points was threatened. At the decisive instant, however, he wasn't bothered.

The correct basketball play was to pass the rock – and he executed. Following that play, his remarkable run was over.

James's staggering streak of 1,297 consecutive NBA regular season games with 10+ points concluded this past Thursday, when the NBA's all-time scoring leader had only a mere eight points during the Los Angeles Lakers' 123-120 win against Toronto. He delivered the game-winning assist, feeding Rui Hachimura to hit a triple to win the game.

“None,” James said after being questioned on the record concluding. “The team got the victory.”

A Team-First Choice Secures Victory

He might have attempted to win the contest – while also extending the streak – in the closing seconds, instead, he decided to dish the ball to Rui on the wing. Hachimura sank it, prompting James exulted with his hands in the air.

“Just playing the game correctly. Always make the correct play,” James remarked. That has always been how I operate. That’s how I was instructed the game. I’ve done that my whole career.”

James is acutely aware exactly how many points he has during a game,” said the team's head coach JJ Redick. He made the play as he has done countless times.”

The Streak's Closing Chapter

James re-entered the floor for the final time at 5:23 remaining, the result along with the historic run both hanging in the balance. He had a mere six points on a 3-for-15 performance at that juncture.

He got a bucket with under two minutes remaining to level the contest and missed a shot with 1:01 left that would have gotten him to double digits.

He avoided taking another shot – even though he had a chance. A teammate gave James the ball in the waning seconds, but James chose to make the extra pass instead.

The spirits of the game, when you play it correctly, they often bless you,” Redick added.

Reflecting on a Staggering Run

James's streak started back in January 2007. It was easily the most extended such streak in NBA history: His Airness, Michael Jordan had 866 consecutive double-digit scoring games, Kareem recorded 787, and Karl Malone had the fourth-longest run of 575 games.

LeBron is such an unselfish player,” said Lakers center Jake LaRavia.

He focuses on playing the game of basketball. He could have shot but because of the player he is and his personality as a person, he executed the team play, found Rui and secured the game.”

Getting to ten points was usually a formality well before the start of fourth quarters. During James’s streak, he had reached the 10-point mark by the start of the fourth 1,266 times prior to Thursday.

However, two of those unusual single-digit games through three quarters had happened recently: He recorded nine points entering the final quarter against Dallas on 28 November, and then had six before the fourth quarter against Phoenix on Monday night.

He succeeded in extend the streak against the Suns. The very next outing, it finished – yet he was celebrating regardless.

My focus is to make the best play. That is instinctive, no matter what,” James declared. When you make the unselfish play, the sports deities are always giving back to me.”
