Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
