MoclĂn, a ancient white village in southern Spain, about a short drive from Granada, is the stimulating setting for this painting holiday. Artists of all abilities – even novices – will be taught how to conceive and execute abstract artworks. Part of the schedule will be spent outside, working on tutorials en plein air. These charcoal drawings and watercolour studies will then be expanded upon in the studio, with guests creating a number of interpretive scenes in acrylics to be exhibited in the village. Participants has sole use of the venue, which is centered on an open courtyard and has a roof terrace with views over the countryside. This Mediterranean cooking retreat, located at a villa by the river in the inland Algarve, is inspired by the plant-based cuisine of celebrated cooks. Participants will master the art of selection of small dishes, take part in a hands-on falafel session, refine mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make substantial main courses such as spicy mushroom ragu and moussaka. There are trips to the village market and a local vineyard to sample Portuguese wines, along with free time for walks by the nearby river, to unwind on the deck or swim in the infinity pool. Hip Hop Don’t Stop is an uplifting, welcoming weekend dance intensive for adults in High Wycombe. The daily schedule throughout the camp is a high-energy group warmup, followed by several 90-minute workshops teaching different urban dance forms, then an hour-long jam to demonstrate those solos. Dancers are split into groups based on skill level, so it is suitable for those who are brand new to street dance, right up to experienced performers or teachers. This coastal town is the perfect location for a sea shanty weekend. Participants will be taught historic sailing songs from a folk singer and vocal coach, and have a go at composing original ones. Author and tutor Greg Mosse leads the regular sessions on this writing retreat. He explores topics including story structure, characters, locations and suspense, to submitting work to agents. Greg’s wife, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will participate in special sessions at the start and finish of the week.
