Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.
He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “devastated”.
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on last Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.
The president stated he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the families of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president informed journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Attendees assembled over the past few days at the high school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in DC.
“She was the individual that educators wished for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s alma mater, stated to the press. “She was caring, considerate and always ready to assist people.”
Service details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The tragedy caused the government to pause refugee claims and cease granting visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
The airman, a native of the city, started his military career in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor the governor said on television.
Attorney general Bondi told a news show that she aimed to meet with the family.
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a MP with excellence, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had bravery,” he informed the audience at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
